Expectant Parents

The birth of your baby is a wonderful miracle. You and your baby can share the gift of life with someone who desperately needs a different kind of miracle. By donating your baby’s umbilical cord blood, which is typically discarded as medical waste after birth, you can help to possibly save another life—that of a child or adult patient in urgent need of a cord blood stem cell transplant. The few ounces of blood remaining in the umbilical cord and placenta after the birth of your baby, when donated, can be processed, tested, typed and stored in our public cord blood inventory available to any patient in need.

The Expectant Parents Section will explain why public cord blood donation is so important and how and where expectant parents can participate in our public donation process. This section also includes answers to many of expectant parents’ frequently asked questions.
